Explanantion of long wait times in AB.
If you feel this is in the wrong place please move it.
I have heard various reason reasons why AB takes so long to get in to a match.
We hear that they don't have enough servers, people won't play unless they have an advantage, not enough Luxons to match up to Kurzicks and so on. Does anyone know the real reason or is it a combination of all of the above?

Gaile said on this forum that there's NO SUCH THING as the limit of concurrent AB games in GW.

Lack of servers. In AB both sides sit waiting, I have checked outposts for both sides out of curiosity when I could not get a match. Both sides had multiple districts of people waiting, both sides saying the other was scared to fight. Its just a lack of servers, only so many matches can go on at once.

There's only a certain amount of games that can happen at once. If those are already in progress, you wait.

Sorry, my desire to prove such a trivial point simply does not exist. For AB or FA, its very easy to see it happen. Go to outposts on either side, if both sides have people calling the other side scared n00bs, Im pretty sure both sides are waiting for matches to start. Beyond this paragraph of explanation, I have no intention on offering proof. Requiring screenshots of everything that happens is pretty absurd. Please offer a screen shot of you playing GW, else you clearly have not played the game.

Being in a Kurzick Alliance, I've played mostly Kurzick, during Alliance Battles, but with the advent of the new skills, I've played more on the Luxon side, and even if there are a limit to the servers, the Luxon side gets in faster, even if their map is favored.
I think it's a combination of too many Kurzick players and the number of servers, not one or the other.

I really don't have to wait
According Anet it is not the amount of instances that is limited so that leaves a few possibilities. Many more Kurzicks, and one which may be overlooked easily is that some teams break up when already in the count down, effectively removing a team from the staged battle, may this cause a reset of the counter as well.

You started the thread to find out the reason. Why wouldn't you want some kind of solid proof, as opposed to hearsay--which is all you're going to get anyway?
None of us can really know for sure. We aren't privy to Anet's server structure, so...yeah.

I too have checked both sides when I used to play a lot of AB and there was a long wait on one. Sure enough there was a long wait on the other. Doesnt mean that this is always the case, nor does it mean that this is the case since I stopped playing ABs, but its since then made me pretty credulous of Gaile's remark. Theoretically, if we take Gaile's statement at face value, there should never, ever, be a wait for playing AB unless one side has less than 3 full teams of 4 ready to go.
Doesnt matter to me now anyway, since I wont go back to AB's. Not only was there an unbearable wait time most of the time I played, they've now essentially removed any gain from the loss of a side. Not exactly an improvement. Only if there was never a wait or the wait was truly negiligible would the recent AB update be viable.

*sigh* I don't know where this rumor of 'not enough servers' came from, but it's complete and utter rubbish. Take notice the next time you are experiencing a delay in starting an AB. More than likely this will only happen to you when you have home arena advantage. If you are at the disadvantage you will more than likely not suffer any wait at all. This is because there has to be an equal ratio of Kurzicks to Luxon for a game to play.
When one side is at an advantage, people will either guest into a guild of that faction or simply do an AB when they may not otherwise. When a side is at a disadvantage, people are less likely to play.
It's that simple. Really.

No. No it was not that simple. I use was because I am talking ~6 months ago before I quit playing AB.
Even during the times you mention, there was wait on both sides. All it took was messaging friends who play on both sides to see what their wait experience was. Granted the wait was worse when the sides were balanced, worse still on advantaged. If I could have guested to the other side I would have taken screenshots, but I only ever stay on my side. Now I simply dont play anymore.
Maybe its changed now and its just like you say. Maybe side switching got out of control and its the main reason for wait times now. Who knows. It used to be more balanced though and there was still wait.

There should be an incentive to play, more faction when u fight at a disadvantage. Saltspray 100% (normal for both), grenz 150% (for luxons) and ancestral lands 200% (for luxon), Vice versa 150 and 200% for Kurzicks fighting at etnaran and Kanai respectively.

thats really BS. Not everyone are elitist looking to always play in when its their advantage. Lots of people like me, who join with guildies/friends/PuGs, play AB for fun or for gaining factions to donate etc. Alot of people don't care what map it is, if they got a good group, they're ready to go.
Now in a population of couple of millions of players worldwide... if we can't get 3 teams of 4... there has got to be a problem...

lol Dont get me started
The man is 100% correct.
If you refuse to believe him.... wait till the map is on Grenz,Ancestral, or Etnaran, Kanaai then get a guest invite to whatever side you dont belong too... & go count teams of 4 IN International District & American District on both sides. The ratio reaches monstrous proportions oft times. Truthfully its a simple math equation involving ratio.

I play on all maps, I haven't noticed that much of a difference. The most I have ever had to wait was 5 minutes, and that was only once in my life, hasn't repeated ever again.

Gaile said on this forum that there isn't a limit on the number of possible servers. It is just down to whether there are enough on both sides to make up the numbers.

I only play Kurzick. But I have never seen it not packed with people waiting to play. Is Luxon not the same way?
